'Papergirl Brisbane is a community project where art and writing is collected from creative people, exhibited in a gallery, rolled up, and then distributed by bicycle to the random passers-by. In this annual project, artists of all ages and abilities are invited to donate their work to a non-juried exhibition. Afterward, the artwork is rolled into bundles and is distributed by a team of cyclists to anyone they meet along specific bike routes around Brisbane. We view this simple act as a significant performance, where the individual artworks become part of a larger community-engaged project. When an artist gives their work as a gift, they build a relationship with the recipient and with others affected by their creativity and this act of kindness. Papergirl brings art back to its identity as true creativity: a ‘pure gift’ that builds community through sharing.'

Papergirl Brisbane 2014 featured over 200 works from local artists and was held at Brew Café on Saturday the 22nd of November with the distribution bike ride taking place on Sunday the 23rd of November 2014. Papergirl was originally founded in Berlin by Aisha Ronniger, who developed the idea due to a tightening of a law that associated postering in public places with graffiti-spraying. The Papergirl project was brought to Australia by Vegas Spray ARI.
